Darren Almond has 2 major shows opening in February. He has a solo show at Matthew Marks which opens on February 17th and runs through to April 14th. The show features a new film, In The Between, which was partly shot on the recently opened railway line running between China & Tibet.
Back down at sea-level Darren also has a show at Site Santa Fe in New Mexico which runs from February 10th through to May 13th. In this space he is showing his film If I Had You which he also presented for his Turner Prize exhibition in 2003.
A confession - I missed a bit of studio press in the run up to Christmas. There are only so many papers I can stomach on a Saturday. So to play catch up . . . Belinda Eade was the subject of a 2 page article in the Times Magazine on December 23rd. Belinda's most recent grotto project is finally going to be open to the public later this year; for visiting times please see Cherkley Court.
Emily Young's book, Time In The Stone, is set to be the coffee table book of the season (is there a season for coffee table books?). Published this month, the book is available directly from the studio (danny@emilyyoung.com) at £35. Time In The Stone includes 64 full colour plates, is designed by Richard Adams Associates and has principal photography by Angelo Plantamura.
As well as the standard hard back edition (edition of 1000), there is a slip case edition (£45) and 60 artist's editions which are signed, numbered and come with a unique 20cm Chalcedony Lunar Disc by Emily Young; the artist's edition price is £1175 + shipping.
Also, in the world of publishing, Liza Campbell's memoir, Title Deeds, went to three print runs since it was published in hardback last year and the paperback has just been published as well; available from all good bookshops and . . . here.
Studio illustrators, Jo Ratcliffe and Alice Tait, are both still on top of their game. Alice has her first illustration for Vogue in the current March edition and Jo has decorated a guitar for the Harrods Rocks event. Jo is also featured in the Wild Women Do issue of I-D which is currently available at all good newsagents - though why the piece about her is titled Look After Your Teeth is not immediately apparent.
Faye Haskins has an exhibition of prints with the Untitled Gallery at the Adam Street Members Club from February 26th through to March 11th.
Katy Moran is one of the artists in an exciting four person show at a new Gagosian space in New York. Entitled Old Space New Space the show marks the opening of a new Gagosian gallery on Madison Avenue.
Over in Japan, Zakee Shariff has an exhibition at a store called Make Art Your Zoo in Tokyo. Alongside her artworks she has made a special commission of printed vests for the store, using one of her most recent print designs.
The room that Dan Hopwood designed for the Berkley Hotel was recently featured in the travel section of GQ February. In which Dan's room is described as the ultimate in "luxe accommodation . . . offering an intimate, sensual and suitably indulgent experience." Dan is also involved in the set up of a new web tv channel made by interior designers for interior designers. It is called designlife tv and can be viewed here. The first episodes on the programme feature a report from the design shows Decorex and Maison et Objet and a film about Cole & Sons, the UK based wallpaper company.
