So . . .the new website is launched on May 23rd; to celebrate this there is an Open Studios Evening at the building to which everyone is welcome and this coincides with the private view of 'Behind Closed Doors' a show within the gallery at the studios featuring work by Mole Browne, Liza Campbell, Julie Goldsmith, Natasha Laflin, Catherine Parkinson and William Warbrick.
The show is the first of 3 short exhibitions. The following exhibition is 'Great Western Studios: A History' - a show examining the history of both the building and it's set up and of the people and businesses that have worked from the studios over the past 12 years. A History opens on May 30th and runs until June 2nd. The week after this opening on June 6th is 'Peachy' featuring works by Nick Dawes, Justin Hibbs, Katherine Lubar and David Ben White.
We have also played host over the past month to a series of painting workshops run by Kitty Stirling. The one week classes will continue later this year and are open to anyone wanting lessons in drawing and painting. Lynn Parotti's new solo London show is taking place at Chelsea Arts Club from May 30th through to June 25th. Entitled 'When The Bough Breaks' it features recent paintings made referencing Hampstead Heath. Gordon Langley has also just finished re-designing her website - which you can access here.
The Official launch of Emily Young's book 'Time In The Stone' took place last week at the Crystals Gallery in the Natural History Museum. Grayson Perry wrote an article about Emily for The Times which you can read to the right.
To coincide with the book she also has an exhibition of new work which has just opened at The Crypt at St Pancras parish church, Euston Road, NW1 2SA. Featuring a wide range of her signature pieces, torsos, discs and heads, the show further enhances her reputation as one of the finest female stonecarvers working today.
The work of Great Western Studios' artists is coming to a port near you soon. In late April the world's largest passenger ship, Liberty of the Seas, set sail on her maiden voyage. On board are works by Julie Goldsmith, Natasha Laflin, Before After and Andy Bridge.
In a reversal of position Jo Ratcliffe has made it from being the illustrator of the contributors page in Wallpaper to being illustrated as a contributor herself for the 100th issue of the magazine where she art directed the following shoot.
Darren Almond's exhibition with Max Hetzler in Berlin continues this month and he also has work in a new exhibition at Winchester Cathedral.
Elsewhere, David Ben White has work included in a show of the collection of contemporary art held by his alma mater Central St Martins. The show runs until May 18th at Lethaby Gallery, Central St Martins, Southampton Row.
Blue Curry has work included in a forthcoming intervention at the Photographer's Gallery by NextLevel magazine.
Sean Henry is putting the finishing touches to his mammoth installation 'couple' which is to be sited 300 m out to sea off the coast of Northumberland at New Biggin on Sea. Prior to that he has a show opening in Germany on May 24th at Galerie Von BraunBehrens titled Presence there is an accompanying catalogue for the show which can be purchased via the gallery's website.
Conquering new territory in the Far East, Elvan Erdin, has work with the Broadway Gallery being displayed at the emerging art fair CIGE in Beijing.
The US-based Anthem Magazine asked six artists including Zakee Shariff to create a piece of artwork inspired by a song or album. Zakee chose Joni Mitchell's Woodstock from her 1970 'Ladies of the Canyon' album. The magazine is out this week and is available online.
